Sustainability in our business

We started our bull + tash business in November 2017. Mark and I had experience in other businesses, but never anything as large as furniture (I’m talking jewellery). We source beautiful furniture now, and it has always been in the back of my mind how we wrap and ship our items. Part of it isn’t even up to us. The shipping companies state how we should wrap items e.g ‘use at least 2 turns of bubble’ etc. If we don’t adhere to their rules, and anything gets broken, we are then at fault.

It really is a tough one as we sell vintage furniture. Beautiful vintage furniture that has lasted many years. The last thing we want to do is damage it on its route to its new home! So what can we do? We’ve started using Bio Degradable bubble wrap which states-

’Our degradable bubble wrap rolls are an innovative packaging solution that has a degradable additive blended into the resin during production to ensure that it breaks down quickly in landfill. This bubble wrap also offers superb protection to your products and can also be reused’. davpack.co.uk

This is definitely a step in the right direction, but still not ideal. We use recyclable cardboard boxes for our smaller items, but these still need to be well packed. This includes the stipulation of using bubble wrap. We then use Eco Flo biodegradable loose fill to support the items. Again this is not an ideal situation, but a definite shift towards a better packing system.

We are trying to do better because it’s something we really believe in. In the last year, how we treat our planet has started to really effect me. I’ve always recycled at home but it’s not enough, and can we even be sure that it’s being recycled after it gets collected? I’m trying to do what I can, with the knowledge that I have, and I’m ready to learn! Will you come on this journey with me? Let’s figure this out together!

Love Bull x
